Self catering holiday cottage on the beautiful Isle of Wight
Aerial view of The Little Barn and gardens

Location

The Little Barn is on the South West Coast of the Isle of Wight

Situated in a National Landscape (previously knows as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), The cottage is surrounded by farmland and shares 2.5 acres of land with the owners home.

The large main living areas and patio face South East, with panoramic views towards to St Catherine’s Down. This gives guests a greater sense of privacy than expected.

Our secluded location, also benefits from little or no light pollution making night-time stargazing a wonder. We provide a Dobsonian telescope for guests to use.

The Grounds

Guests are free to explore the landscaped gardens, wild flower meadows, natural wetland, lake, ponds and streams. There will always be some some interesting wildlife to spot including Barn Owls, Kestrels, dragonflies and butterflies.

Around and About

The nearest village is Shorwell, which has a traditional thatched pub, Church and village store. The Church (St Peter’s) has a medieval wall painting dating from around 1470.

There are over 300 walks on the Island, with 500 miles of well-maintained footpaths – something to suit all ages and abilities. The Shepherds Trail to Carrisbrooke Castle is at the bottom of our drive! Atherfield Point, famous for shipwrecks, is approx 1 mile walk south and has dramatic views over the cliffs and coastline.

The Isle of Wight has lots of easy cycle routes and cross country trails. Wight cycle hire will deliver bikes to the cottage if you don’t want to bring your own.

If you are looking for something adventurous, then you could try paragliding, surfing or sailing. Otherwise, a more relaxed option is clay pigeon shooting or simply wandering round historic buildings.

All of the Island beaches and visitor attractions, are easily accessible by car, bus or bike. We will always be happy to pass on tips and information to help you enjoy it all.
