Aerial view of The Little Barn and gardens

Location

The Little Barn is on the South West Coast of the Isle of Wight

Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The Little Barn is surrounded by farmland and shares 2.5 acres of land with the owners home.

The main living areas and large deck face South East, with panoramic views to St Catherine’s Down. This gives guests a greater sense of privacy than expected.

Our secluded location, also benefits from little or no light pollution making night-time stargazing a wonder. There is a Dobsonian telescope for guests to use.

The Grounds

Guests are free to explore the landscaped gardens, wild flower meadows, natural wetland, lake, ponds and streams. There will always be some some interesting wildlife to spot, from Barn Owls, Kestrels, dragonflies and butterflies.

Around and About

The nearest village is Shorwell, which has a traditional thatched pub, Church and village shop. The Church (St Peter’s) has a medieval wall painting dating from around 1470.

There are over 300 walks on the Island, with 500 miles of well-maintained footpaths. There is something to suit all ages and abilities. You can join the Shepherds Trail, from the bottom of the drive. The Cliffs at Atherfield are about a 1 mile walk south and make for a dramatic view.

The Isle of Wight has lots of easy cycle routes and cross country trails. Wight cycle hire will deliver bikes to the cottage if you don’t want to bring your own.

If you are looking for something adventurous, then you could try paragliding, surfing or sailing. Otherwise, a more relaxed option is clay pigeon shooting, wandering round historic buildings and much much more.

All of the Island beaches and visitor attractions, are easily accessible by car, bus or bike. We will always be happy to pass on tips and information to help you enjoy it all.

Note: Dungewood Lane and the track up to The Little Barn are unclassified roads and can suffer from potholes!
